During my art class, this year have I learned more about what kind of artwork I like to create. I had an idea as what medium I preferred to use the most but this year helped me think of different ways to use the medium. Thread is that medium, I started with using the thread to sew but then I studied different artists who use thread in there artwork and it inspired me to use it various ways as well. I don't like sticking to one thing, so having learned that thread could be used in different ways helps me not get bored with anything.
Making an artwork out of thread takes a lot of time. I have worked on my artworks after school, work and when I had free time during breaks. It was hard as I had to sit and do my artwork instead of hanging out with family and friends. However, making my artworks is fun and I love the process of stitching which results in a beautiful thing at the end.
If I were to get a chance to relive this past year as an art student, I would like to explore more medium which are similar to thread and not worry too much about college. I think playing with my artwork a lot and just trying to focus on making my piece look good, would have been good for at least one artwork as they didn't always turn out good.
From the last two years, I am proud of being able to visualize what I want to create for my artwork. Before last two years, I used to always find it difficult as what I wanted after I finished one artwork. However, now I know it before I finish a artwork. I am proud of my last artwork the most as it shows what I have learned and developed since the beginning of my last two years. I have not posted it on my website as it is not finished yet, I am working on it and I will post it as soon as it is done. I have spent lot of time in making it and I like how it turned out.
My most memorable experience at DRHSART, was the group critiques. It was interesting how sometimes, the discussion would go from artwork of student to another artist to recent accidental art and many other stuff. The discussion made the critique feel more like a group talk then a presentation of just artworks.
My advice to future students is to just have fun making artwork. I used to worry what if I don't find what I like to create, but eventually you will find it as you explore with different media. Also Mr. Guyer has assignments which will allow you to think of all sorts of ways to use your media and explore them. I hope that you enjoy your time at DRSHART and have fun until the end of your school year.
